Trams provided the backbone of urban public transport in Britain for over fifty years, and their introduction spawned a large body of building work: depots, workshops, power stations, substations, offices, shelters and stations.  This first book on the subject looks at each of these types of structure and explores links between tramways and town planning.  Tramway abandonment resulted in the loss of many buildings while those that survive often remain in plain sight, their significance lost.  It is hoped the book will help rectify this and further a greater appreciation of these structures and also raise awareness on what remains and might be under threat.
